Back in April we shot our Summer 14/15 look book “When Icicles Hang by the Wall” in a garage under Queenie’s Café in Freemans bay. It’s always super exciting for us as it’s the first time we actually see our collection come to life and we had an amazing team on the day which made it all very easy and heaps of fun.
Here are some behind the scenes snaps plus some notes from our team and of course a couple of the finished looks so you can see it from start to finish.
Collection will be in stores from late August!
Our photographer was Harriet McDonald aka Paper Moon here’s what she had to say:
“For the Summer 14/15 Lookbook shoot, I wanted to achieve a bright, clean, contrasted image that showed off the texture and graphic nature of many of the garments against the concrete block wall. With most of the collection being black and/or white, I had to keep in mind that both are typically difficult to shoot, as any form can be easily lost if the light isn’t well placed or the image isn’t exposed properly. I used a large Octa softbox at a high angle and 45 degrees to the model to create enough shadow to keep the form of the garments and give some depth to the images. A desaturated white balance was applied to give the lookbook it’s cool, muted appearance.”
The hair was done by the Vada Engine Room Team
“Vada Engine Room Art Team was directed by Maaike’s vision for SS14/15 and expanded on the concepts built into the clothing structure and texture with their interpretation in the collab.
Krustallos (greek for crystal) was coined for the look Vada’s – Nicole Gordon – designed for Maaike. Staying with Vada’s adoration for organic texture- a crystal – with its raw cut edges, dusty texture and flat faced characteristics enabled this icey maiden to emerge resplendent in to fog. The defined zig zags set into the hair depicting icey formations lost in the frozen misty air adds further reflection and edges to the Maaike fabrics.”
Makeup was by Angelica Boquiron for M.A.C Cosmetics and we are so in love with what she did
“This look was inspired by the elements of an Ice Queen. The soft, silvery white colours and frosty textures mimic a winters day.”
